Why is proper nutrition important for athletes?
Proper nutrition is often overlooked as part of a training program in the sport of skating. Skaters, as with gymnasts and dancers, are especially at risk for developing eating disorders and it is the responsibility of the parents and coaches to ensure these young children are fueling their bodies properly.
It is all too common that skaters are told they need to lose weight with no proper guidance or instruction. Teaching kids that food is an amazing tool that will help their bodies reach their athletic goals is more beneficial than teaching them that smaller is better. Young athletes that are growing need good healthy nutrient and nourishment so their bodies will meet the demands put on it while skating every day. It is an additional goal of this class to provide the skaters with healthy eating tips and ideas that will result in a positive relationship with food.
